Alpha Man (Commodore 64)
A downloadable game
This is a C64 BASIC conversion of Soleau Software's shareware MS-DOS game, originally developed by William Soleau in 1992. In this game you control Alpha Man on a 11x7 grid where the object is to push blue blocks with letters on them over tiles marked with the same letter. Sounds like a very simple task, but the actual solution of each puzzle in this game can prove to be very challenging. (Part of the reason why I chose to make this conversion.)
There are a few notable differences between the original game and this version:
1. Just like the DOS version, this one also has a save feature, though significantly simplified to merely saving all the records into a single file, instead of creating and managing "player cards". If you intend to use the load/save feature, make it sure that you have a writeable floppy disk in drive 8, either physically or virtually.
2. In this version of the game, the tiles and the possible letter markings on them are obscured by the blocks and the player standing over them. This can be taken as added difficulty, but to avoid unnecessary confusion, when a letter block is positioned over a matching tile, it becomes purple.
3. The original game provides an option to demonstrate a solution for the first few puzzles. This one doesn't, but I don't believe not having this feature is a huge loss.
This game offers the same 25 word puzzles as the shareware version of Soleau's Alpha Man. The full version adds another 25 puzzles, which I'd be glad to add to the next C64 Alpha Man later, but until then, I wish you to have a lot of fun with this one.

Excellent puzzle game. I also added it to my new "Gameplay of New C64 Games from January 2025" video along with other recently released games. Hope you like the video.
Very nice game! I can't seem to solve ORDER :( but I did well with the others I played...must figure out how to proceed
PS: I made it! It was the hardest to solve till now...congrats for the nice game!
Oh thank you! I was tempted to spill the beans on it, because ORDER is one of my favourites. But I'm glad I didn't.
Very good, thank you! Alpha Man (2025, KWAYNE)
